DIY communities have developed out of counterculture movements and cultural resistance. An important aspect to these communities is producing their own media. Zines focused on DIY media techniques, such as this one, help teach and empower readers in the community on how to produce their own media. This DIY media pamphlet includes guides on creating a zine, poster, stencil, or billboard.

This zine guide aims to educate cyclist readers by teaching them the basics of bicycle maintenance. The zine begins with a hand drawn diagram of a bicycle and lists the names of the bike parts. This DIY guide also includes how to fix a flat, what tools a cyclist will need for regular bike tune-ups, and how to deal with bike shops. The zinester who created this guide combined the techniques of using a typewriter, original drawings, and copy and paste to make the zine.

Gardening is a staple subject for DIY zines. Many gardening zines, such as this one, focus on growing food. This zine includes information on composting, planning a garden, planting the first seeds, the growing process of a garden, and reference tables. The zine was distributed to the Tallahassee DIY community and primarily focuses on cultivating a garden in North Florida, so it also includes local information about resources in Tallahassee.
